FORTRESS Cattle Feeding (Feedlot)
About 6.000 weaners, preferably Bonsmaras or
Bonsmara-crosses are fed per annum under intensive
conditions. Self-mixed rations largely consist of maize
(corn) silage, hominy chop, molasses and concentrate.
A major portion of this fodder is produced on FORTRESS
farm. Apart from their own FORTRESS weaners, most are sourced from regular FORTRESS clients.
Computerised record-keeping and performance monitoring
enables them to inform FORTRESS clients of how their
weaners grew in the feedlot. The preferred average weight of weaners they purchase is around 225 kg. Weaners will gain an average of 230 kg in about 120 days to be slaughtered as super-grade (A2) at different abattoirs.
For possible weaner selling and further information, please contact Guillaume Strydom,

The manure produced in the feedlot is removed several times per year and converted into valuable compost.
